The Naxos Apothecary: A Portara View Restaurant in Chora, Naxos

For those familiar with the Greek beauty and skin care brand Korres, you may have heard of its owners’ upscale beauty and skin care brand, The Naxos Apothecary. Inspired by Greece’s oldest homeopathic pharmacy, The Naxos Apothecary brand makes lovely beauty products, skin care, and scents. The brand is somewhat difficult to find outside of Greece, so I definitely recommend picking some up when there. In any case, The Naxos Apothecary also has a restaurant and store combination located right in Chora, Naxos. This post reviews my lovely dinner at The Naxos Apothecary in July 2025.

The Naxos Apothecary Restaurant.

First off, The Naxos Apothecary is located at the far end of Chora port’s restaurant row, very close to the entry way to the Portara. It can be a bit difficult to find unless you are walking to the Portara. The establishment itself is both a restaurant/wine bar/tea cafe and a shop selling some of the brand’s most famous products (although the selection was not that great in my opinion). We did not make a reservation and were able to snag an outdoor table just after sunset on a Friday evening, which was pretty lucky. I suggest making a reservation. The restaurant is small and also offers, at least from the outside tables, a slight glimpse of the Portara and an excellent sunset view.

The restaurant really leans into its Portara views.

The Naxos Apothecary bills itself as somewhat of a wine bar, but I viewed it more as simply selling wine… I planned to order a cocktail but the restaurant only served wine during our visit. This was a bit surprising as I had read that they served cocktails online, maybe they changed the menu. In any case, we ordered a pretty tasty red from Domaine Sigalas from Santorini

Delicious wine from nearby Santroini.

For our dinner, we split a number of starters, followed by a main course, and dessert. In my opinion, appetizers are the best! During our visit, we first tried the Traxana Balls, served with herb yogurt, and tomato marmalade. We also ordered the fried potatoes, or “French fries,” paired with a Cycladic spicy cheese dip, and the Apothecary’s Naxian salad. These dishes were all delicious!

For the main course, we split the lamb, which was served with mashed celeriac, and cooked greens. It was very good, and a large portion. Not the best lamb I have had in Greece, but certainly a good diner. The gravy under the lamb was particularly good.

Greek lamb!

I, of course, couldn’t forget dessert. Given that I am huge peach fan, we ordered these grilled peaches, which were served atop some crumbled wafer and delicious whipped cream. Absolutely delicious!

A delicious seasonal peach dessert.

Our meal ended with a complimentary shot glass of Kitron, Naxos’ local liqueur. I had been wanting to try this, so the complimentary glass was a nice touch. It was not as liqueury as I expected, in a good way!

Toward the end of our main course, one of the restaurant’s adorable cats joined our dinner table, lol. She was very sweet and ended up with far too much of our lamb!

I would point out that The Naxos Apothecary also serves breakfast and brunch. I have also read about people stopping here for wine or “cocktails” but, again, it served no cocktails when we visited and I think it could be difficult to sit for just a glass of wine on a busy evening.
