Restaurant Review: Excellent Chinese Fare At Wing Seong Fatty’s Restaurant, Singapore.

Dan and I spent some time in Singapore earlier this year and we had such a difficult time finding reasonably priced food outside of fast food and hawker centers! Legitimate, Singapore is very expensive. Check out the prices for food our the Marina Bay Sands pool bar:

We knew that Singapore would be expensive before we left so, of course, I scoured the internet for solid spots with a somewhat reasonable price tag. The fact that Singapore is home to so many amazing restaurants did not help… In any case, I came across a casual restaurant called Wing Seong Fatty’s that was rumored to offer delicious Chinese food and we decided to go. I tried to make a reservation in advance without luck.

In any case, we walked in at about 8 PM and only had to wait a few minutes for a table outside. FYI – most of the tables in Fatty’s are large and if your party does not fill up an entire table, you will be seated with another small table. We sat with another group of people.  The restaurant was a mixture of visitors and locals, and there were definitely more locals than tourists – always a good sign!

We ordered Tiger beers to start and began perusing the menu – all in English. The menu was rather large and included standard Chinese fare of varying spice levels.

Tiger beer!

We started with pork spring rolls, which were huge! These were good and definitely shareable. Fatty’s provided a dipping sauce and some spicy peppers with the spring rolls.

For mains, I ordered a spicy chicken dish with a side of rice. The chicken was well-prepared, although it could have been a bit spicier! That being said, I would definitely order it again.

Dan ordered a similar pork dish without spice. He enjoyed his food, too.

Pork. Not spicy.

We stayed eating and drinking beers at Fatty’s until about 10 PM, when we paid the bill and took a taxi home. Our meal was surprisingly inexpensive, especially given the expensiveness of Singapore. While this was not our best meal of the entire trip, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to visitors in Singapore looking for a casual, sit-down, reasonably priced restaurant in the heart of Singapore.

Wing Seong Fatty’s: 175 Bencoolen St, Singapore 189649. Quality Chinese food in Singapore at a reasonable price. Casual, unclear if reservations are accepted. I recommend preparing to wait a bit before being seated.

ON A BUDGET

Definitely a good choice if you are on a budget in pricey Singapore. The dishes are sizeable and the prices are not crazy.
