As you probably know, Dan and I got married in Portugal last summer and spent a lot of time researching restaurants and activities for our guests. After reading about Mar Das Latas in Ericeira, Portugal, we booked dinner here for 7 people the night before our rehearsal dinner. We all liked it so much that Dan and I went back and so did his sister with her Portuguese boyfriend’s family!

Storefront.
Mar das Latas is a self-titled wine, beer, and tapas bar, specializing in Portuguese wine, craft beer, and upscale bar snacks. Mar das Latas is located right in Ericeira, on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean (just a few minutes walk from Hotel Vila Gale Ericeira). The restaurant is quite charming, but seating is extremely limited. If its nice outside, the restaurant generally sets up tables outside and allows patrons to drink just outside of the storefront.

Outdoor tables!
Mar das Latas offers a food menu that stays the same. The menu consists of standard tapas, including meats, olives, and cheese, a number of salads, and these delicious, delicious meat and cheese sandwiches! The wine and beer list are non-existent, instead the wine and beer are stored in the open and you select what you want. The wines and beers change regularly so don’t be afraid to ask for assistance – the staff was good about assisting us in finding a wine to suit our taste.

The “wine list.”

The cutest wine bottle.
On our first visit (with our seven person table), we were seated along a long table against the wall indoors. Space was tight, but very Portuguese. The staff was really nice to us, and they helped us order and pick out wine. Despite a bit of a language barrier, they were very good sports. For our dinner, we ordered a variety of meats, cheeses, the most delicious melted cheese in the CUTEST heart shaped bowl, and several very tasty sandwiches. Most of the sandwiches used a tomato sauce that was so, so good. Highly recommended!!

Melted cheese in a heart shaped bowl. Perfect for our wedding.

Meats and cheeses.

Craigy with one of those tasty sandwiches!

Brothers Cozzi…
As you can see, we had a really great time! Since we had such a great time, Dan and I went back for more wine and tapas on our last evening in Ericiera, just before we flew to the Azores! On our second visit, the sun was still out and we sat right on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Atlantic. Tres romantic for newlyweds!

Romantic table on our last day in Ericeira!
We again ordered that delicious melted cheese and more sandwiches, this time with Portuguese potato chips (they are different in Portugal, I swear!). And, once again, our food was absolutely fantastic.

More melted cheese.

Those sandwiches!!

Portuguese potato chips!
We paired our late lunch with a big red from the Douro and a nut tart for dessert. A perfect end to a perfect week in Ericeira!

Delicious dessert tart!

Big red to finish out part 1 of our trip!

Ericeira table scenes.
All in all, I absolutely LOVED Mar das Latas and absolutely recommend it to other travelers.
STEAL OUR TRIP
Mar Das Latas: R. Cap. João Lopes 24A, 2655-295 Ericeira, Portugal. Closed Wednesday, open other days 16h – 21h, until 22h on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is tiny and if you have a large group, you may have a difficult time finding a table. We Facebooked messaged the restaurant in advance for a reservation. Mar das Latas was quite responsive, but they asked us to remind them of our reservation closer to the date.
ON A BUDGET
Ericeira is not terribly expensive in general. Mar das Latas has some upscale wines and beers, but you can also order something on the cheaper side. Not expensive, but definitely not the cheapest place in town.
