Airport Lounge Review: Lufthansa Business Lounge, JFK Terminal 1

The Lufthansa Business Lounge at JFK’s Terminal 1 has been on Priority Pass for a while, and I think its a respectable option at JFK’s Terminal 1 if you can get in. We visited twice in the last year and both visits were pleasant, although I wouldn’t arrive early to visit the lounge. This post reviews my experience in the Lufthansa Business Lounge at JFK. I would also note that this post only reviews the Business portion of this lounge, as that is all I could access. Apparently first class passengers have a better lounge in Terminal 1…

LOCATING THE LUFTHANSA BUSINESS LOUNGE AT JFK

The Lufthansa Business Lounge is located in JFK’s Terminal 1, to the left just after one clears security.  To reach the lounge, proceed through security and go left (with your back to security) for like 1 minute. The lounge is tucked away right before all the upscale shops in Terminal 1.

ACCESSING THE LUFTHANSA BUSINESS LOUNGE AT JFK

The Lufthansa Business Lounge is primarily for Lufthansa passengers and members of Star Alliance, especially those flying first or business class. However, this lounge is also open to Priority Pass members during certain hours. Very generous!

Entering the Lufthansa Business Lounge.

While the Lufthansa Business Lounge is open to Priority Pass members during certain hours, if it becomes crowded with Star Alliance members, particularly shortly before a flight begins boarding, the lounge will deny Priority Pass members. We have had luck asking when would be a good time to return – they lounge staff told us when to come back once (30 minutes later) and the other time just let us in since the lounge was closing soon. Priority Pass guests can stay for three hours in this lounge. There is currently no option to buy access into this lounge.

THE LUFTHANSA BUSINESS LOUNGE SPACE AT JFK TERMINAL 1

The Lufthansa Business Lounge at JFK Terminal 1 opens to a welcome desk where staff take your boarding pass and Priority Pass. Behind the welcome desk, the lounge is basically one big rectangle with window views on one side and a hot and cold buffet on the other, with some lounge space in the back of the lounge.

Particularly, just past the check in area is a kitchen area with tables and chairs for eating and drinking, as well as a cool bar along the wall with several different clocks telling the time in various cities. Along the wall is a hot and cold buffet serving German-adjacent things, as well as non-alcoholic drinks and beer. A self-serve bar is located at the end of the kitchen area, breaking up the kitchen area from the relaxation area.

Behind the kitchen area is what I would describe as a relaxation area, with comfortable seats in the form of chairs and side tables. The lounge also offers large windows with views of parked foreign planes.

Restrooms are located in the back of the lounge. They were clean, but I didn’t see a shower when I visited (although I was not looking for one).

THE FOOD AT LUFTHANSA BUSINESS LOUNGE

The food at the Lufthansa Business Lounge at JFK was better than I expected. The lounge posts written menus of the cold and hot food and during both of our visits, replenished the buffet frequently. I tried a couple things, including some fantastic potato salad, and everything looked tasty. I found the food to have a German feel, but Germans may disagree, LOL. All food is self serve.

In addition to the hot and cold bar, there is a small snack bar next to the self-serve alcohol bar. On offer are always small bags of chips and candy jars. I enjoy this aspect of the lounge!

THE DRINKS AT LUFTHANSA BUSINESS LOUNGE

Drinks at the Lufthansa Business Lounge are self-serve and pretty decent. Next to the snack bar is a self-serve bar of hard liquor, red wine, and iced white wine. Guests help themselves to whatever they want.

Across from the self-serve bar at the end of the food buffet is draft German beer, as well as one NY beer, a coffee machine, a soda fountain, and bottled water. I found the draft German beer to be a really nice touch!

In sum, our visit to the Lufthansa Business Lounge was good. It has a good location and respectable food and beverage choices for a Priority Pass lounge. My one complaint is that we had trouble finding outlets to charge our devices prior to our flight.
