All You Need To Know About Visiting Dogfish Head Brewery!

After a long break and a visit to Colombia, I am back with all you need to know about visiting the Dogfish Head Brewery in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware! A visit to Dogfish Head in Rehoboth is fun for both the beer geek and those who are not crazy about beer. It makes for a great weekend getaway from the mid-Atlantic region!

Dogfish Head Brewery, or Dogfish for short, is a pretty famous American craft brewery located in coastal Delaware. It’s really fun to visit for a long weekend and, not surprisingly, draws lots of visitors each year. While super fun, visiting can be a little confusing due to the differing locations of the Brewpub, the Brewery and the Inn. To aid in planning your getaway, here is some essential information that you should be aware of before visiting. First off, there are three main stops on your Dogfish tour: (1) the Brewpub; (2) the Brewery; and (3) the Inn (can only be visited if you stay there). They are each about 20 minutes away from each other and I would rank visiting them in that order.

Wingtips Lounge Review: JFK Airport, New York

With the holiday travel upon us, here is my review of Wingtips Lounge in Terminal 4 of New York’s JFK Airport. I have visited twice, once at breakfast and once at lunch, and will likely return.

Wingtips is a private airport lounge located plane-side, just past security, on the second level of JFK’s Terminal 4. Several foreign airports use Wingtips as their lounge and priority pass members receive complimentary entrance. NOTE – if the lounge is too crowded, priority pass members’ access is cut off. Individuals not part of priority lass can buy a one-day membership for $50 USD.

Wine Tasting in the American Express Centurion Lounge San Francisco!

Dan and I stumbled upon an American Express Centurion Lounge in Buenos Aires last year and have been a bit obsessed with the brand since. So when we flew through San Francisco earlier this year, we got to the airport hours early just to go to the Centurion Lounge (which was located in a different terminal!).

For those unfamiliar, Centurion Lounges are upscale airport lounges run by American Express. American Express began constructing them in the U.S. after so many airlines cut American Ex cardholders’ access to their premier lounges. There are about 5 in the U.S. currently (Miami, LaGuardia(NY), Dallas, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Seattle) and several abroad, including one in Buenos Aires and a couple in India (although apparently the international lounges are somewhat distinct). In any case, the two I visited were plain awesome.

San Francisco’s Centurion Lounge is located in Terminal 3. AmEx Plaitnum cardholders and Centurion members get complimentary access for themselves, one guest and all immediate family members present. All other AmEx cardholders can buy a day pass for $50, and its totally worth it!! I also think certain cards get one or two free passes a year…check that out!

The SFO Lounge is located not too far from the security lines plane-side. To enter, you walk up the stairs and check in at the front desk. NOTE – you need your card and photo ID.

Once inside, the lounge has plenty of seating and storage (including lockers), lots of plugs, wifi, papers, tv, etc. There is also a shower (yes, exactly one shower), which you can use if you make a reservation…

While the lounging area is nice, the real deal is the bar area, which is complete with its own California wine tasting. Yes, you read that correct, wine tasting! To enjoy this complimentary feature, simply ask the bartender for a ticket to wine taste. The bar tender will then give you a print out coupon good for five samples. You can choose from a wide variety of wines; 5 samples equals one glass. There it is, and me trying the samples!

In addition to the wine tasting, there is a full, complimentary bar. I enjoyed the sparkling wine!

The buffet is also in the bar area. I was there around lunch and the menu consisted of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, bruschetta with strawberry jam, ramen and a few desserts. There were also the makings for a salad. While the food was not my favorite, it was probably better than most airport food! One complaint, there was nothing to take to-go…like chips or something!

Access to The Centurion Lounge is complimentary for global Platinum Card and Centurion Members. All other Card Members with a valid American Express Credit or Charge Card can purchase a day pass for $50 per day (includes children under 18).

Boozing in San Francisco

Like deciding where to eat in San Francisco, deciding where to drink is also a tough one! Here are some of Dan and my favorites! Cellarmaker and Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar were particularly enjoyable!

Cellarmaker Brewing Company – My favorite of our drinking stops! Cellarmaker is a small brewery (no bottles/cans) in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco that specializes in small batch, speciality brews. The Tenderloin area, which has just the most awesome name, is not the safest part of San Francisco, but the brewery was not in a bad area. Cellarmaker consists of a small tasting room with a large TV showcasing the seasonal sporting event – in our case baseball! They do not serve food, just pints and growlers of beer. When we visited, Cellarmaker served a number of strong, interesting beers, many of which took advantage of West Coast hops. We loved Cellarmaker and would recommend it to anyone in the San Francisco area who enjoys beer! Here are some pictures:

This Foodie’s Guide to San Francisco

So, where to eat in San Francisco, such a loaded question! There are SO MANY delicious, local, wonderful places to eat in San Francisco! Deciding where and what to eat were the hardest decisions we had to make in San Francisco! Here are our picks, in no particular order! Hope you enjoy them!

Swan Oyster Depot – Swan Oyster Depot, of Anthony Bourdain fame, is a seafood and oyster bar located in the Nob Hill are of San Francisco. Swan Oyster Depot has been around for practically a century and is highly regarded by locals and tourists. The restaurant is tiny, with only about 20 bar seats and no ability to make reservations – you simply line up outside and wait! We went a little before 11:00 a.m. on a weekday and waited just under an hour. I’ve heard it only gets longer as the day goes on… Once we got in, we lunched on the freshest seafood, including crab back, seafood chowder, oysters and Anchor Steam beer! Some notes: (1) while casual, Swan Oyster Depot is not cheap; (2) there is really nothing to eat except seafood; and (3) payment is cash only.
