Our first trip to the Maldives left us in the Male airport for only a few minutes before flying to Rangali Island on Trans Maldivian Airlines. This time around, however, we had about an hour to kill and spent it in the Conrad’s airport lounge. I was excited to visit since we missed it last time. This post reviews the lounge!

The Conrad airport lounge.
For a bit of background, almost everyone visiting the Conrad Rangali Island will fly into Male and then transfer to a sea plane to fly to Rangali Island. Some times the transfer is immediate; other times its longer. For those longer waits, the Conrad opened a lounge in Male’s Transmaldivian Airlines Terminal. All guests staying at the Conrad are welcome, but only on arrival. There is no access to this lounge when departing.

The Conrad’s lounge is located on the second floor of the Male’s domestic terminal, but you won’t need directions. A Conrad staff member will meet you at baggage claim, check your bags in for the flight to Rangali Island, escort you to the lounge if time permits.

The lounge is a sizeable square room with plush couches and day beds scatted about – great for those coming off a long flight. The decor is definitely “beachy” and will make you excited for your upcoming vacation. There is also a small outdoor space with a couple chairs and plants. I stepped outside but it was simply too hot on our visit to stay outdoors.

We visited in the morning, and there was a small buffet set up at the entrance to the lounge. The buffet included fruit, cereal, and some pastries. Everything was complimentary, and you will certainly want to take advantage of this as everything on Rangali Island is expensive.

Breakfast buffet.
The lounge also had an espresso machine and a fridge filled with juice, soda, and water. These beverages are also complimentary. No alcohol is served in this lounge (or in the Male airport as a whole).

My breakfast plate. The free Diet Coke is key – they are pricey at the hotel.
Once we sat down in the lounge, an employee quickly came over with cold water and began checking us in at the Conrad Rangali Island, taking our passport information and our credit card for the hold ($5k, woof). This is a nice touch as once we arrived at Rangali Island, we were taken directly to our room!
In terms of other amenities, the lounge has nice restrooms with showers and great wifi.
We left the lounge after about an hour and were escorted to the boarding area for our sea plane flight to Rangali Island. All in, the Conrad Lounge is a nice touch and would make a long layover much more comfortable. That being said, I would not try to plan extra time to visit this lounge.
