Le Chic Shack: Trendy and Unconventional Poutine and Wonderful Milkshakes

Poutine is a classically Québecois dish of french fries, gravy and cheese curds.  Nope, its not the healthiest dish.  Claimed to have been invited just outside of Québec City (the exact place varies), poutine is extremely popular in Québec.  So popular that everyone has a favorite, and the Québecois will staunchly defend their favorite poutine.  Do not get into an argument over which poutine is best.  You will certainly lose.  One thing, however, that is generally agreed (at least in Québec City): Québec City poutine > Montréal poutine.

Club S.E.A., Sala Pergolesi, Malpensa Airport, Milan: Airport Lounge Review

Malpensa Airpot is a huge airport about an hour outside of Milan.  Malpensa handles a lot of international flights, while Milan’s other airport, Linate, handles domestic and regional flights.  If you are flying into or out of Italy, there is a good change that you will go thorough Malpensa. Here are some pictures of Milan, which as a side note, warrants at least day to see the sites (Milan is home to my favorite duomo)!

A Cheesy Visit to Gouda, Netherlands!

Yes, I know the title is ridiculous.  I just couldn’t resist.

Gouda (pronounced “how-da”), Netherlands is a small, canal town in South Holland, a little less than an hour’s train ride from Amsterdam.  Gouda is most famous for its namesake cheese and its famous Thursday market celebrating said cheese – the Kaasstad!  In addition, Gouda has a well-preserved 15th century town hall (the Stadhuys), beautiful canals running throughout the city and a compact center.  I visited Gouda as a day trip from Amsterdam and highly recommend it!  Here are some pictures of the charming town:

The Kaza Visa: A Necessity For Visiting Victoria Falls

When Dan and I visited Victoria Falls in April 2015, I had an extremely difficult time figuring out which Visas we would need to purchase to visit both the Zimbabwe and Zambia sides of Victoria Falls!  Lucky for us, the governments of Zimbabwe and Zambia introduced the Kaza Visa before we visited.  This made our Visa purchasing so much easier, however, it was not that well publicized outside of the Victoria Falls immediate area, so I decided that its own post was necessary.  For a quick cheat sheet, see the bottom of the page.

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe: Back And Ready For Visitors!

Tourists have two options when visiting Victoria Falls, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World: Zimbabwe or Zambia.  The Falls straddle the border between the two countries, and the famous border is marked but the photogenic Victoria Falls Bridge!

Zimbabwe has historically been the tourist favorite, offering the best views of the Falls and the closest accommodations.  In recent years, however, political turmoil and crazy-inflated currency have lead many tourists to visit the Falls from Zambia, rather than Zimbabwe.  Dan and I decided to visit both sides and started our tour in Zimbabwe, and I much preferred to Zambia!

Old and new Zimbabwe ads!  I just love travel ads!

The good news is that Zimbabwe is steadily returning as a tourist destination.  The politics largely avoided Victoria Falls in an effort to keep tourist dollars flowing into the country, and Dan and I really saw no sign of it on our trip.  The people were very friendly and we felt totally safe.  The only lingering effect of the past troubles is Zimbabwe’s lack of currency.  As of April 2015, Zimbabwe uses the US dollar.
